A traditional timber one-storey house was converted by Kimizuka Architects into a two-storey hotel annex. The Villa Cocoro for Hotel Shikinokura is a made from a framework built using an old Japanese carpentry method. A joint system that doesn't use nails or adhesive allows the house to be taken to pieces, and the modern design elements complements the traditional framework.
