Explanatory Briefs (maximum one side of A4) and images (jpeg, eps or tif at 300dpi with a minimum resolution of 1024 x 768) may be uploaded when entering online within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry. For further information see the What to Enter page.

When sending physical samples/CDs/DVDs/USBs, please ensure that you complete the online part of the process first. You must label all items with the corresponding entry number/s and send by post/courier to the postal address.

1. Identity Design

This category covers full-blown identity systems adopted between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011. The judges will be looking for a strong idea, great visual qualities and consistency of application across a variety of media.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief, brand guidelines as well as items that demonstrate the identity in action. Up to five images can be uploaded within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry. Physical samples of the identity in action should also be sent.

2. Brand Campaigns

This category covers brand campaigns adopted between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011. This is defined as promotional activity undertaken on behalf of a brand, in the form of a brand programme or a campaign. The judges will be looking for a strong idea, great visual qualities and consistency of application across a variety of media. If applicable, please provide a website address and any relevant usernames and passwords. 

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and a demonstration of how the branding campaign has been applied to one or more platforms. Entries can comprise work for advertising, digital media, direct marketing, environments, exhibitions and events, literature, merchandise, packaging, point of sale, publications and stationery. Up to five images can be uploaded within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry.

3. Print Communications
Incorporating direct mail, posters, record sleeves, annual reports etc

This category covers print design projects such as annual reports, promotional brochures, direct mail, calendars, design manuals, stamps, ticketing and other miscellaneous items published between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011, or, in the case of calendars, these must cover the year 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and one copy of each item. Physical samples should be sent; where these are not available you may submit up to five images within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry.

4. Retail Interiors
Permanent and temporary

This category covers retail interiors and associated branding for chain stores, department stores, shopping centres, one-off shops or concessions, including pop-up shops, on the high street or within transport terminals and other environments which were completed between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and five images (within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry) showing different views of the interior, plus a floor plan. The full address of the outlet(s) should be given to allow judges to visit the site if necessary.

Video footage of the space may be posted on a CD/DVD/USB in QuickTime format (.mov) in either 720 x 576 or 768 x 576 PAL resolution. If you are sending CD/DVDs please ensure this is saved in a cross-platform format to allow the material to be viewed on all UK equipment. Please also ensure all files may be extracted from the CD/DVD for judging purposes.

5. Packaging
Branded and own-brand

This category covers packaging for any type of branded or own-brand product or product range that was implemented between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011. If the judges decide that there are outstanding entrants in the two disciplines in their own right, separate winners will be awarded.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and up to five images (within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry). Physical samples of the packaging should also be sent.

6. Retail Point-of-Sale

This category covers retail point-of-sale material that was implemented between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011, across print or digital media.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and up to five images, within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry.

7. Hospitality (pubs, restaurants, clubs) and Workplace Interiors

This category covers interiors and associated branding for pubs, restaurants, clubs and other hospitality environments - permanent or temporary. It also covers workplace interior projects. All projects must have been completed between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and five images (within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry) showing different views of the interior, plus a floor plan. The full address of the outlet(s) should be given to allow judges to visit the site if necessary.

8. Writing for Design

This category covers copywriting for brand campaigns, identity programmes, packaging, digital projects and other projects adopted between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and examples demonstrating the application of the copywriting. Up to five images can be uploaded within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry.

9. Service Design

This category covers service design programmes implemented between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011. The judges will be looking for innovative and effective programmes.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and a written statement describing the service design project in action. Where appropriate other items and up to five images demonstrating the programme in action can be included within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry.

10. Product Design
Consumer and industrial

This category covers any product that can be bought for personal or domestic use, or for use by business, medical institutions or industry. Products launched between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011 are eligible.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and up to five images (within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry) of the product including any relevant diagrams describing how the product works. Wherever possible, physical samples of the product should also be sent.

11. Furniture

This category covers pieces or ranges of contract or domestic furniture launched between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and up to five images (within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry) showing different aspects of the piece or range, plus a diagram where appropriate to show how the design works. Wherever possible, physical samples of the product should also be sent, or a London location where it can be viewed should be given for the judges it view if necessary. 12. Exhibition Design
Permanent and temporary

This category covers designs for museums, galleries and visitor attractions, including permanent and temporary cultural exhibitions, trade shows and installations that were completed between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011. 

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and five images (within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry) showing different views of the interior or exhibition, plus a floor plan. A walkthrough website address would be helpful to the judges if it is available. If there is no other option stills photography will be accepted.

Video footage of the space may be posted on a CD/DVD/USB in QuickTime format (.mov) in either 720 x 576 or 768 x 576 PAL resolution. If you are sending CD/DVDs please ensure this is saved in a cross-platform format to allow the material to be viewed on all UK equipment. Please also ensure all files may be extracted from the CD/DVD for judging purposes.

13. Wayfinding and Environmental Graphics

This category looks at print or digital signage and other environmental graphics for towns and cities, commercial or cultural buildings or developments, and public services such as schools and healthcare facilities, which have been completed between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and up to five images within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry.

14. Self-promotional Projects

This category covers projects in any media that have been created without a client and are for the self-promotion of the consultancy. Projects must have launched between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short written description of the project and up to five images (within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry) of the project. Where appropriate, physical samples of the collateral produced should also be sent.

15. Editorial Design

This category covers editorial design projects including books, commercial or in-house magazines, newspapers and supplements launched or re-designed between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and one physical copy of each publication, with a copy of its previous incarnation in the case of a redesign. Physical samples should be sent.

16. Interactive Design
Including websites and digital installations

This category covers interactive design including websites, microsites and browser-based games launched between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011, as well as digital installation design.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief, the website address and any relevant usernames and passwords. 

Video footage may be posted on a CD/DVD/USB in QuickTime format (.mov) in either 720 x 576 or 768 x 576 PAL resolution. If you are sending CD/DVDs please ensure this is saved in a cross-platform format to allow the material to be viewed on all UK equipment. Please also ensure all files may be extracted from the CD/DVD for judging purposes.

17. App Design

This category covers apps, including app games, launched for Apple, Android or any other platforms between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief, a web-based/video simulation of the app, as well as a free passcode for viewing purposes. Please ensure that they work, and that they will continue to work until 13th June 2012. You do not need to supply the platform that the App has been developed for.

Video footage may be posted on a CD/DVD/USB in QuickTime format (.mov) in either 720 x 576 or 768 x 576 PAL resolution. If you are sending CD/DVDs please ensure this is saved in a cross-platform format to allow the material to be viewed on all UK equipment. Please also ensure all files may be extracted from the CD/DVD for judging purposes.

18. Broadcast Design

This category covers screen graphics, idents and on-screen graphics packages for any national, commercial or business TV programme, film or video released between 15th October 2010 and 31st December 2011.

What to enter
Submissions should comprise a short Brief and show the graphics in action and include a couple of stills (within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry). If your entry is a website, the website address with any relevant usernames and passwords should be provided. 

Video footage may be posted on a CD/DVD/USB in QuickTime format (.mov) in either 720 x 576 or 768 x 576 PAL resolution. If you are sending CD/DVDs please ensure this is saved in a cross-platform format to allow the material to be viewed on all UK equipment. Please also ensure all files may be extracted from the CD/DVD for judging purposes.

19. Rising Star

The aim of this Award is to discover the design industry stars of the future. It is open to those who have been in the design industry for up to three years, regardless of age. This Award is free to enter!

Entrants can be in a consultancy, in-house or freelance, but must be working as a professional designer. Entrants can be working in any design discipline (with the exception of fashion design and architecture).

What to enter
Entrants should submit a full CV, three examples of work, and a covering letter of up to 500 words outlining their career highlights so far and their career aspirations (within the total upload limit of 5MB per entry).

20. Best of Show

This category cannot be entered.

The judges will select one entry from the winners of the 18 main categories (not including Rising Star), which in their view is the best design entered for the 2012 Design Week Awards.
